Term 2 - Week 3 & 4

Good afternoon Parents,

Can you believe we are already down two weeks of Term 2? I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some time to relax in the beautiful sunshine. 

Just a few pieces of information for the upcoming fortnight...

Homework

On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list 💓 is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds 🤓




Learning Intentions

English: 

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'oa' as in float, 'ow' as in snow, 'ue' as in blue & 'ew' as in grew. The tricky words for this fortnight are - woman, different, friend, home.


Maths:

Last week, we began focusing on number sense that involved ordering numbers from largest to smallest and smallest to largest, identifying missing numbers in a sequence and identifying numbers before and after any given number. 

This week, we will continue to develop this and begin our unit on time later in the week. We will be revising time concepts that were taught in Year One - this includes reading o'clock and half past times both digitally, on an analogue clock and in words. (We would love if you revise this at home)

The expectation for Year Two within the Measurement Strand is: 

  • Tell time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to' (ACMMG039)
We will be praticising showing these times on an analogue clock, digitally and in words e.g. quarter past 2 is the same as 2:15, quarter to 1 is the same as 12:45)

Mother's Day 📸💕
We are in the process of creating some very special presents for the special women in our lives. We would greatly appreciate if you could send in a photo of your child with their mum by Monday the 6th of May.

Year Two Parent Information Night 2024

Hi Everyone,  Welcome to the 2024 parent information night for Year Two.  A big thank you to all those who were able to attend. We understand that it might have been a bit difficult for some people to attend due to other commitments, so we are very privileged to be able to present this to you in an online capacity as well as in person. Term 1 - Week 3 & 4 😁

  Good afternoon  parents, Wow! What an absolutely busy yet fun first full week we have had in Year Two. Swimming lessons have finished and we are into full days of learning this week. Can you believe it is already week 3? I am so proud of how much focus and persistence our Year Two team are showing when learning new things. In just a few weeks we are already growing in our confidence to problem solve, continuing to build our independence to complete our work, try out new things and even suggest and share our own ideas.    Thank you to all who have made the time to read through the parent information slides posted last week and read through the other information in the previous posts.
